Jean-Philippe Rigotti
Born in 1970 at the foot of mont blanc in savoie, he comes from a long line of italian sculptors. Trained both by his grandfather and his father, who was awarded the meilleur ouvrier de france 1972, he specialises in a technique invented by his grandfather in the 1970s: three-dimensional engraving on 23.6 carats gold leaf.
He draws inspiration from photography, which he deconstructs and reinterprets in relief, playing with the radiant gold and deep blacks. His style evokes the aesthetics of daguerreotypes, caravaggio’s chiaroscuro and the power of black found in soulages’ work. He is currently the only artist in the world to master this form of three-dimensional engraving on gold with such depth and finesse.
Since the late 2010s, he has exhibited in numerous galleries in france and internationally, including lyon, paris, megève, geneva, miami, new york, shanghai, etc.
His works, monochromatic yet vibrant, create a unique emotional and visual presence and embody a subtle alchemy between minimalism, tradition and innovation.
